Meet Caleb Breakey

Traditional Publishing Broke My Heart, So I Set Out To Create A Better System.

Caleb and his wife began their married life by purchasing more than 50 books about writing. The newlyweds would often pen stories for hours at a time while serving as live-in night managers at a retirement facility.

Caleb spent the next decade breaking into the traditional publishing industry. He sold 20,000 books but found himself unsatisfied with the results. So he took a four-year break to learn marketing secrets from a mentor who'd spent $1 billion in online ads. What good is a message, after all, if you can’t get it out to the world? Now he's helped hundreds of aspiring authors write books, build platforms, and win book contracts.

Caleb believes books are the big domino that knock down all of the MASSIVE aspects of impacting souls, such as building your authority, growing your fanbase, accelerating your profits, and increasing your influence. Writing a book helps you do work you're passionate about and leaves a legacy that stands the test of time.

The words Caleb longs to hear at the end of his life were penned hundreds of years before his birth in Numbers 14:24: "But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land."

He lives in Washington State with his wife, Brittney, and enjoys visits from two mischievous mini huskies and a smiley Shiba Inu.

5 Questions With Caleb

What is one area you've seen Speak It To Book and Sermon To Book grow in since its birth?
People. Teamwork. Friendship. When I started this company, I had no idea that I'd soon be hanging out with most of them in my own living room, learning how to pull in one direction toward the company's vision of writing authentic books and building impactful platforms that captivate, educate, and motivate others in unprecedented ways. I love our team and have developed lifelong relationships with so many incredible people.
Where would we find you on a free Saturday morning?
Spending time with my wife, Brittney, playing with our two mini huskies (Boone and Stormie) and Shiba Inu (Winnie), working on something creative, hanging out with friends, drinking coffee at a local shop (trenta cold brew splash of heavy cream, please), reading lots and lots of books, watching documentaries, working out while either listening to podcasts or watching a game, or driving somewhere just for the fun of it.
What are some emerging industry trends and opportunities?
To be successful in publishing, you need something genuine and valuable to say—and you must strategically build your relationship with your readers via a book funnel. The opportunities are endless. Traditional publishers are looking for people with platforms—not necessarily people with valuable things to say. We're flipping that on its head. We believe those who are living a great story are too busy to put their lives on hold to write it down. So we help them do that and then pair them with killer internet marketing. Great ideas that marry great writing and great marketing are winners from day 1.
How would you describe your vision for your business?
Traditional publishing, which I hold a deep respect for, is a flawed system that the world has accepted because no one has introduced a better way. I hope writers everywhere will one day look back and say, "What in the world were we thinking?" All the while turning a profit from their hard work and originality. I want to see writers publishing life-altering books while keeping their rights and royalties.
What are you doing if you're not writing?
I take classes nearly every week on marketing. I don't just want to be a polished writer. I want to know how to connect great ideas to real readers. The key is to not follow trends. Instead, invest in continual learning then create what you want to see in the world.
